Ballarat is a creative city

Ballarat is a creative city which is home to a diverse range of small, medium and large festivals, events, exhibitions, live music, sport and live theatre every year.

With our current population growth, Ballarat is now one of Australia’s largest inland regional cities and the regional capital of western Victoria.

Uniquely located within easy access to Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo and the western Victorian region, potential audiences to our events number 400,000+.

In addition to our location, our city has some of Australia’s most significant heritage-built form and locations, as well as beautiful natural landscapes.

With diverse and mature hospitality and accommodation sectors comparable to a capital city, Ballarat is an affordable and rich event destination.

We are continually seeking to further develop our reputation as an arts, cultural and tourism destination through the attraction of quality events and festivals.

We are seeking out events that drive visitation, support our civic liveability and contribute to amplifying Ballarat as a tourist destination.

The extensive calendar of events we are seeking to develop is outlined in the City of Ballarat’s Traveller Experience Plan 2021-2030 (TEP).

The City of Ballarat acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land we live and work on, the Wadawurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung People, and recognises their continuing connection to the land and waterways. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging and extend this to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People.
